Greenford Learning Centre Presentation


The Harrow and District Branch held a presentation event at the Greenford Learning Centre on Thursday 21st June. Branch members who attended the recent programme of IT Skills courses in the Learning Centre were invited to receive their certificates. Shane Poulter of Royal Mail was present along with West Thames College who ran the courses. Branch ULR Mike Dawson, along with other branch ULR’s, is currently arranging the next programme of courses to start in the Learning Centre from September. Further details of the courses and services available in the Learning Centre at Greenford will be available on the Harrow & District webpage of the CWU ‘Learning for All’ website. Openreach London Volume Operations Team


Following a meeting held with Martin Holloway, GM for Openreach London Volume Operations (BVH4) he agreed that the services available in the London Region Learning Centres are extremely beneficial to all on BT. Briefings regarding the Learning Services available are now being given to all the Senior Operating Managers. First to all their Team Meetings for Operational Managers and then to all staff Team Meetings for CWU Grades.


Everyone will be given the opportunity to enrol for forthcoming courses which should generate new course programmes to begin in the Learning Centres from September.


Campaign for Learning - Family Learning Festival


The 15th National Family Learning Festival will run from 13th October to 11th November.

CWU Education & Training website – Lifelong Learning for CWU members


Free online learning courses are available through the ‘Lifelong Learning for CWU members’ section of the Education & Training website.
You can choose from the following: General Resources; Skills for Life; Computers & IT; Languages; Science; History; Higher Education; Arts & Crafts.
The courses can be accessed from any computer connected to the internet and are open to all members and ’Family and Friends’.

‘CWU Learning for All’ website for London Region Learning Centres
Please use the link below and under ’Regions’ select London from the list. Then from the London Region home page go to ’Branches’ and select from the list of branch names for Learning Centre information; www.cwulearn.org


Dyslexia Assessment Screening
A software package that runs a programme to assess dyslexia levels is available to be used in Learning Centres and Branches. All appointments for the assessment will be made individually and all information will be given and kept in the strictest confidence.


Regional Learning Resources
There are 12 laptops available, with Mobile Broadband Connection, for all London Branches to use to promote learning services for members. Internet connection through the mobile broadband offers access to websites with free online courses in a range of subjects and topics.


UK Online
The CWU London Region is registered with UK Online to offer Basic IT Skills courses for complete beginners through the ‘Go On’ website.


IAG Services
Learning Centres in the London Region are able to offer Information, Advice and Guidance services to help you decide what type of learning you would like to do and when.

Forthcoming ULR training is available at Alvescot Lodge on the following dates:

Monday 22 - Friday 26 October 2012
Closing date for applications - 6th September


It would also be possible to arrange Regional ULR training in London if there are enough applicants available to attend.
